Goals of Together for Care

Select Text Size:  a a a
AFA's nationwide campaign challenges individuals, families, community organizations, schools, local businesses, and corporations to come together, to collaborate and to care. Our goal is for this unified effort to produce a seamless infrastructure and funding source for the care needs of families across the United States.

Together for Care will address the burgeoning financial needs of both organizations and families involved in the direct care of millions of Americans touched by Alzheimer's disease and related illnesses.

Fact:

The national tab for caring for individuals with Alzheimer's disease is estimated at $100 billion annually.

Fact:

Surveys show that families spend $18,000 to $36,000 annually to provide care for their loved ones.

Fact:

Businesses incur an estimated $60 billion annual cost resulting from primary caregivers'  lost productivity and absenteeism, and insurance expenses.

At the organization level, most of AFA's member organizations that offer direct services are small and grassroots. They struggle with limited financial resources while facing a growing demand for their programs as well as a commitment to provide the best possible care to the community.

Through Together for Care, AFA will fund the start up and expansion of programs and services at national and local levels in order to better provide the optimal care families deserve.

At the individual level, Alzheimer's disease and other dementias place an enormous financial burden on families. The cost of care is skyrocketing, and many primary caregivers' employment income is impacted as well. You and I recognize the sacrifice demanded on an average American family to pay for quality care.

Through Together for Care, AFA will give grants to families to offset the cost of caring for their loved ones. In addition, our funding of programs and services at organizations nationwide will help them offer resources either without cost or at a modest fee to families.
Together for Care benefits individuals, families, organizations and society in general:
  • Individuals and families will be better connected to the assistance they desperately require.
  • Organizations will be better able to meet burgeoning demand for resources.
  • Businesses'  employees/primary caregivers will be better served, thus reducing workplace issues and insurance costs.
  • And society in general will, simply, be better—because together we are taking care of our own.
